About Lone Star Park
At the very centre of horse racing in Texas is Lone Star Park, situated almost equidistant between Arlington and Dallas with Forth Worth not much further along the I-30 (around 20 miles).Lone Star Park hosts its meetings in spring to early summer with Texas Mile Day, Lone Star Million Day and Dallas Turf Cup day being the major highlights, those meetings providing a grand social occasion as well as simply serving as a stakes racing day.
The Park boasts a generous simulcast facility for bettors to wager on races outside at other tracks as well as first class facilities for all horsemen. There is a grandstand capable of seating 8,000 people with plenty more room in the open areas for bettors to move around comfortably and get a glimpse of the thoroughbreds.
In its young 21-year history over $1.7billion in bets have passed through the registers here and the fact that within 7 years of operation Lone Star Park hosted a Breeders’ Cup championship is testament to the standards they have set themselves, they are definitely to be applauded for that.
Lone Star Park History
Having had no racing to speak of in quite some time, Texans voted in favor of pari-mutuel horse racing to make a return to the state in late 1987.With all the donkey work done over the course of a long ten years, Lone Star Park opened on April 17, 1997 with a crowd of over 21,000 in attendance who between them wagered almost $1.5million on the day.
It was obvious by now that Texan bettors were releasing years of frustration at Lone Star who had the single most successful debut season in American racing history with $2.4million wagered each on average by on and off-track bettors.
As if that were not enough, Lone Star Park’s second season in 1998 became the first by a new track to increase attendances in its second year – quite a success.
Wisely concentrating on horsemen and not just customers, Lone Star ensured they were attracting quality trainers and riders when the first phase of their expansion in 2002 ensured two new 50-stall barns were built as well as a 96-stall multipurpose barn and a dormitory building.
